Things to see and do in Chichester
The glorious Chichester Cathedral is located right in the centre of the city. There is a lot to admire about the building in terms of its artwork from the 20th century as well as its medieval stone carvings. The best thing is that both guided tours as well as entry are free. There are often special events such as concerts and exhibitions held here to keep things interesting.
Visit Chichester District Museum which has been set up in a 18th century corn store. Its galleries are based on themes of geology, archaeology and history. There is also a temporary exhibition gallery as well as what is known as the Discovery Room where events and educational set ups take place.
Another exciting activity is a canal boat trip on the two boats called Richmond and Egremont. Not only are these ships used for daily trips which work around a schedule, but it is also possible to charter them for personalised events and social occasions such as meals or simply an evening cruise with friends and family.
The very exclusive Goodwood House is open to the public for only 60 days in a year. It was home to the Duke of Richmond for more than 300 years. Some interesting treasures and artefacts can be seen in this building including the famous work of George Stubbs who is known to make some of the best horse paintings.
The Pallant House Gallery has one of the most brilliant collections of art I the country. It is a Grade one listed townhouse. Its main emphasis is on 20th century British art but there is also an abundance of work from international artists which is impressive to look at.
For a touch of nature, visit the West Dean Gardens located closse to Singleton. The grounds are very well decorated and appear to belong to the Edwardian period. Some of the rarest of plant species are found here as well as a very impressive pergola which is some 300 ft!
